Of all the aspects of McCurry's work, I think that his ability to take photos of different, difficult, and cultural situations will help to inspire my future photographic work. Every time I've gone out to capture photos, I always wished to capture photos of strangers and find out a bit about themselves if they're open to sharing. I feel that this way I could listen to and learn about their culture or life, good or bad, and snap a photo of the person. However, I am always too scared to do so because I don't know how people would react to me taking their photo and asking them personal questions. Moving forward, I will try to use McCurry's courageousness and snap photos of different situations and people (with their permission), and find beauty and stories in those photos that I capture.

"This was a great and very concise presentation. I enjoyed all of the photos that you used in this presenation, particularly because they were a bit risky and not photos that people normally want to see. It was interesting to see how Mary Ellen Mark pushed against societal norms to shine light on those who aren't as priviledged as others. I think the black and white photos gave her images more character and meaning. I would love to know what kinds of backlash, if any, she received from her work."
Hi Raquelle! Great job on your presentation—I feel like I have a solid understanding of McCurry's work and the techniques he often uses, like his strong use of color contrast. I agree that his photos convey a lot of emotion, and your classifications of the images make sense. One area for improvement might be including fewer images so you can dive deeper into each one. Other than that, you did really well, and the presentation was very informative!
Hi Raquelle! I think think your presentation was really well done! I know I've seen some of McCurry's work before, so it was nice to learn more about him. I think your evaluation of him as his work was really well done and you made sure to note the ethically evaluative nature of his work. While the ken burns effect keeps the viewer engaged I think you lose some of the beauty of seeing the entire work though. As for the artist himself, when I see this kind of work I always feel conflicted because too often artists will take pictures like these without the consent of the people in the frame, and while this may bring to light certain topics that need to be talked about the actual subjects in the frame are neglected. I think being an activist is a wonderful route for a photographer, but I hope that I can do it in an ethical way.
Hi Raquelle! I think you did a good job with this presentation. Your explanation of the techniques used for each photo was very thorough, and I enjoyed hearing about the stories behind them. I also think you did a great job of categorizing each image based on what we read in Chapter 4--I agree with your justifications for each of them.
